CrCl3 has a common structural
arrangement shared by many halides of the transition metals
with formula MX3. It has a cubic close packed array
of chloride ions with Cr(III) sitting in 1/3 of the octahedral sites
and between adjacent layers of Cl's. This form exists below 240K, at room temperature a monoclinic form is found. |
