Above 240K CrCl3 exists as a
monoclinic crystal form. The structure has cubic close packed arrays
of chloride ions with Cr(III) sitting in 1/3 of the octahedral sites
and between adjacent layers of Cl's. Below 240K, CrCl3 is found as a rhombohedral form. |
