TiO2 has a common structural
arrangement shared by many fluorides of the transition metals
with formula MX2. Generally, if the radius ratio
r-/r+ exceeds ~1.37 then a rutile rather than fluorite structure
is favoured. Complexes that share this structure include.. CrF2, CrCl2, MnF2, FeF2, CoF2, NiF2, V2O4 and TiO2 as well as MgF2 and ZnF2. |
